1967: Graduated from the
Faculty of Arts, French department of Cairo University
1968-1980: Worked as an
announcer for Cairo Radio and French News for Egyptian Television, and as
a diplomatic editor at Al Musawar magazine
1980-1985: Relocated to
Paris to work for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organisation (UNESCO) and was appointed as editor-in-chief of the UNESCO
NEWS magazine
1985-2001: Paris director
of Egypt's leading Al Ahram daily newspaper
2002: Back in Cairo after
being appointed First Under Secretary for Foreign Cultural Relations for
the international exchange of arts and culture presenting a real answer to
the problems of violence, intolerance and racism. He also became President
of the Cairo International Film Festival in 2002.
He has
written a number of books, plays and articles in several genre, including
his play "Jerusalem Will Not Surrender"
and a film adaptation of his novel, "Hero from the South" was
produced for the cinema. He has recently published a book focusing on the
richness and complexity of the Arabic language entitled, "Down With
Sibawayh."
NB. Sibawayh was the 8th
Century Persian Grammarian.
