Silver Jubilee of the Cairo International Film Festival
The
First festival
-The
first festival was held on 16th of August 1976.
-Prime
Minister at the time Mamdouh Salem inaugurated it.
The festival’s president was Youssef el Sebaai, the
honorary president of the Critics and Film Writers’ Association,
which was founded by critic Kamal el Malakh in 1973.
The association sponsored the festival.

Arab and foreign countries participated in the festival and the sum
of all films this year was 88, 28 of which participated in the
official contest and 28 in the Egyptian film panorama.
The movie shown at the opening was “Beware the theater” (ehzar
al masrah).
-James
Curtis headed the judge panel and Shady Abd El Sallam was among the
judges. The film “The accused” (al mozneboon) was awarded Best
Film and Best Director: director
Said Marzouk and Emad Hamdy was awarded Best Actor.
Among the guests of this festival were Italian actress
Claudia Cardinale and Italian director Dino Fenery.
